Although it received mixed reviews, the musical ran for two years - only shuttering in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic - and earned an impressive 12 Tony nominations. Means Girls Is Based on a Book - But Not a Work of Fiction In the end, everyone was cast as the character they were destined to play in this bona fide classic.
